RAF commander’s daughter jailed 14 months for glass attack causing permanent facial scarring

Episkopi, Cyprus. A 21-year-old woman has been jailed for 14 months after slashing another young woman’s face with a wine glass during a drunken altercation in the Akrotiri base area, a court ruled. The victim suffered permanent facial scarring and required surgery.

Court and incident details

The case was heard at the Resident Judge’s Court of the Sovereign Base Areas in Episkopi. The court found that Jessica Cloke assaulted Madison Bagley in the early hours of August 22, 2025, at a public house in the Akrotiri Sovereign Base Area following heavy drinking and an earlier falling out between the two.

Events leading to the injury

The court heard that Cloke approached Bagley aggressively and threw wine in her face. After Bagley reacted by pouring water over her, Cloke struck her with a wine glass, which shattered on impact and caused severe facial injuries.

Judge’s findings

The judge found Cloke was the aggressor and rejected claims of self-defence, describing the incident as “drunken anger” and ruling that the retaliation was excessive and unjustified.

Medical treatment and lasting impact

Medical evidence showed Bagley suffered a deep vertical cut to her right cheek dangerously close to the eye, along with additional wounds around the mouth area. She was treated at the American Heart Hospital in Nicosia, underwent facial surgery, and continues to receive treatment.

The court said the injuries have had long-term physical, psychological and social consequences, with visible scarring expected to remain permanent. Bagley, who was 19 at the time, continues to experience pain and faces further reconstructive procedures.

Sentencing factors

In sentencing, the judge cited aggravating factors including the use of a glass as a weapon and that the attack took place in a busy public setting with multiple witnesses. Mitigating factors included Cloke’s young age, lack of prior convictions, expressions of remorse, and mental health history, including post-traumatic stress disorder.
