Real Estate Development Association urges update to co-owned buildings framework after Limassol collapse

Limassol, Cyprus. After a building collapsed in Limassol and killed two people, the Real Estate Development Association called for an urgent update to the administrative framework for co-owned buildings.

Call for immediate legislation

The association said on Friday that the absence of a modern framework leaves gaps that place human lives in danger and that further delays in decision-making cannot be tolerated. It said immediate passage of legislation is needed to secure people’s safety, ensure proper building maintenance and prevent similar disasters.

Priorities for the next House

The association said the new House to emerge from the May 24 parliamentary elections should prioritise the immediate promotion and voting of a law on the management of co-owned buildings.

Proposed measures

It said the establishment of a supervisory authority to ensure transparency, compliance and effective control is imperative, along with the adoption of standard operating regulations and increased responsibilities for management committees so they can carry out necessary maintenance work and ensure recovery of costs.

What changes do you think should be prioritised in the management of co-owned buildings?
