The shops in Cyprus will be closed on 1st and 2nd of May. On Friday and Saturday the working day will be until 6 pm.
The Minister of Labour Mrs. Zeta Emilianidou has pointed out that the above decision concerns only the owners of big shops and supermarkets.
The owners of small business- kiosks, souvenir shops are obliged to pay extra to their employees for working on public holiday.
For a long period, the regulations regarding the shop opening times remained unclear.
On the 28th of March, the Supreme Court of Cyprus has accepted the extended working hours for the shops. Currently, there is no legislation, which regulated the working hours of the shops.
