Smoking: new rules in Cyprus

The Council of ministers has adopted the new rules concerning smoking, which are compliant with the Directives of the European Union.

Firstly, there will be graphical warnings about potential medical problems which are caused by smoking. They must take up 65% of the area of the whole packaging.

Moreover, the Council came up with the initiative to ban smoking at the working places, in hospital and schools, including open air place in the afore-named establishments.

In the non-smoking zones the smoking of electronic cigarettes or other similar products will be banned.

For the violation of the rules there is a fine of 850 Euros. Recently, the previous legislation concerning smoking was amended too many times, so it became confusing. Due to the above, the authorities decided to make a new piece of legislation, which will comply with the latest EU regulations.
