According to the European Commission, the waste produced by Turkish-Cypriot side of the island exceeds the average amount of waste produced in the EU by two times!
The head of the Turkish-Cypriot infrastructure stated that the finances of the so-called Northern Cyprus are limited and therefore the vast majority of the waste is dumped by municipalities at unauthorised dump sites. Even with that in mind, the solid waste containment area in Gungor has also reached its potential.
The specialists are also warning about the danger of contamination of the ground waters.
