Tourist flow in Cyprus beat last year’s record


The tourist flow in Cyprus is breaking records, while the Cypriots themselves are less likely to travel abroad. The report was presented by Cyprus Statistical Service in May.

The number of tourists arriving to the island in May increased by 15% comparing to the same period last year. A record number of people arrived in Cyprus this year – 990 thousand tourists, which is more by 18% comparing to 2016. Mostly these are travellers from Great Britain and Russia.

However, Cypriots, according to the poll results, prefer to spend their holiday in Cyprus. This year in May, 90 people less travelled abroad, comparing to the last year’s data. The number of travellers to the most popular destinations – Greece and UK – has also declined.
