UN supports the position of Eide on Cyprus

Эспен Барт Эйде

The organisation expressed its full support to the UN Special Adviser on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide.

The UN has received a letter from Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kodzias, where he has expressed his concerns about the envoy’s efforts to resolve the unclear situation with Turkish Cypriot citizen rights. However, the representative of the UN Secretary-General showed its full support in Eide and promised to look into this issue.

As stated earlier, the requirements of Turkish Cypriots include free movement of goods, services, labour and capital within the EU.

Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiades said earlier that the decision on this issue can not be made by any other EU state rather than Cyprus, since it can affect all members of the European Union.
