CYHERBIA. A park for those who love nature

Cyherbia Botanical Park in Avgorou village is a unique place to visit for a fun day out for the whole family.

It is relatively new and is set on an area of just over 30 sq.km, 8km off the Larnaca-Ayia Napa road.

The park features 9 themed organic herb gardens, a large hedge maze, a forest planted in the shape of the island, and a lavender meditation labyrinth. There are special educational and fun activities available for kids, in the form of a quest. In the park we grow all kinds of certified organic Mediterranean herbs, which are used in the production of teas, essential oils and cosmetics.

All the trees, shrubs and the numerous medicinal herbs in the park have been specially planted, and thanks to continuous care and watering have flourished, so that the park is already welcoming guests.

The Herb Gardens

The herb garden is divided into nine different sections, each having a theme.

Aromatherapy herbs;
herbs used in cooking;
herbs used for infusions and decoctions;
herbs used to fight garden pests;
herbs used for baths;
medicinal herbs;
skin-care herbs;
and a typical Cypriot herb garden.
As you walk through the different gardens you will see plants related to these themes. You can read about the medicinal actions and uses of these plants in the printed guide you receive at the entrance.

In the largest of the areas, a map of the island is depicted using Cypresses, one of the symbols of Cyprus.  You can walk the whole of the “Cypriot coast” along paved paths, and learn about the flora and some inhabitants on the way.

All the plants are arranged so that during the mini-tour you can learn about the special features of the flora and fauna of each region of Cyprus. Both adults and children will certainly enjoy this.

The Maze

Over 600 m of twisting paths in between tall hedges take you into another dimension. The maze provides 2000 square metres of ‘green’ fun for all the family. Try to find the seven hidden birds as well as find your way out. Perhaps a look from the watchtower will help you in your quest?

The Woodland Walk Around Cyprus

Hundreds of Cypress trees form the outline of the island.You can walk around Cyprus in 20 minutes and discover the indigenous trees and shrubs, as well as the island’s ‘seven wonders’, which are the main places of cultural heritage in or near the coastal cities. At these places you can orientate yourself as to where you are on the map. The woodland provides sanctuary to a variety of local wildlife, such as birds, insects and lizards. You will also find the Fairy Village in this area and make a wish there!

Herb shop and Tea room

There is also a tea house in the park, where you can try freshly brewed tea and baked goods made using local herbs. A nearby shop provides organic, herbal products.

In the shop you will find a large selection of herbal teas produced organically in our gardens, as well as essential oils, salves, cosmetics, handmade soaps, creams, scrubs, infusions, aroma oils and medicinal herbal preparations for various ailments and other unique herbal products and traditional Cyprus products of the highest quality.

In our tea room overlooking the gardens you can enjoy a relaxing herbal tea, home made cake or a light healthy meal.

Distillation room

Here we extract various essential oils and hydrosols from the plants in the botanical park. Each plant has its own balsamic season, when the quality and quantity of essential oil are at their peak. The oil is extracted by steam distillation. Essential oils are used in aromatherapy, as medicines, in perfumery and cosmetics.

Seminars and various conferences devoted to medicinal herbs are held regularly at the park, and you can learn about the slimming and health programmes based on phytotherapy.

Cyherbia hosts many unique events, such as the Fairy Festival,  Easter Egg hunt in the maze, the Lavender Festival, and a family Halloween event, as well as distillation weekends and workshops. In the summer we breed butterflies in the special hatchery, where you can see all stages of the butterfly’s life.
