19-year-old arrested over 11 burglary and theft cases in Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa, Cyprus. A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with 11 burglary and theft cases reported in Ayia Napa over the past two months.

Arrest at hotel

Police said the arrest was made shortly after 1am on Saturday after officers received information about a person behaving suspiciously in a hotel lobby in Ayia Napa.

Famagusta police attended the scene and found the suspect leaving a hotel room. Officers stopped him and found a shoulder bag containing €315 in cash, a wallet and two gold chains.

Investigation continues

The 19-year-old was unable to provide satisfactory explanations for possessing the items and was arrested at the scene, police said.

Further investigations identified him as a suspect in 10 additional burglaries in Ayia Napa during the same period.

He was expected to appear before Famagusta District Court, where police were seeking a detention order. Investigations are continuing.
