Larnaca, Cyprus. Authorities began removing caravans and demolishing unauthorised structures from a beach near the Larnaca nautical club on Tuesday after an interior ministry deadline to vacate the area expired.

Removal operation

Authorities, assisted by police, started the operation early on Tuesday. Four caravans had already been confiscated, while large barriers were placed at the beach entrance to prevent vehicle access.

Further action planned

A similar operation is planned for a nearby beach where wooden huts have been erected.

Reasons for intervention

The authorities acted following complaints concerning cleanliness and hygiene, as well as the prevention of free public access to the beach.
