Nicosia, Cyprus. Breach Festival returns for its fifth edition on October 9–10, 2026, with two evenings of improvisation, experimentation and contemporary music-making at Ktirion 53 in the old city. The programme features six performances by artists from Cyprus, the Netherlands, Lebanon and Greece.

Improvisation and exchange

Over its five editions, Breach Festival has developed into a space for improvisation, bringing together artists of different generations, musical languages and creative approaches from Cyprus and beyond. Performances feature contemporary sound practices, unexpected sounds and arrangements created on the spot in response to the setting, the audience and fellow musicians.

The 2026 programme brings together acoustic and electronic sounds, traditional and contemporary instruments, and sonic research.

“At Breach,” organisers say, “music is created and transformed in the very moment we experience it. Active listening, interaction and exchange lie at the heart of every musical act, turning each concert into a unique encounter between the musicians, the space and the audience.”

Opening evening

The first evening opens with Breach Trio, formed especially for the festival’s fifth anniversary. Alkis Nicolaides, Andria Nicodemou and Giorgos Bizios, active figures in Cyprus’ improvised and experimental music scene, will perform together as a trio for the first time.

Duo Baars-Henneman from the Netherlands also features on the opening evening. Their performance will be followed by Karşına, a duo featuring Elena Xyda on voice and lafta and Stavroula Constanti on ney, exploring connections between musical traditions and contemporary practices.

Saturday programme

On Saturday, October 10, Ralph Chbeir from Lebanon will explore the possibilities of electric bass and electronics. Circa 19, featuring Thanos Kazantzis on drums and Dimos Vryzas on violin and electronics, will present their approach to improvisation and sonic exploration.

The programme concludes with Cypriot trio The Portal, featuring Giorgos Holland, Stelios Antoniou and Giannis Lautaris. Their performance combines flute, drums, modular synthesisers, voice, percussion and electronics.

“At Breach Festival,” organisers say, “no one knows exactly what will happen before it happens.”
