Cypriots spend nearly an hour a day commuting, Numbeo data shows

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cypriots spend almost 50 minutes a day travelling to and from work or school, according to data released on Wednesday by international platform Numbeo. Private cars remain the dominant form of transport, while bus journeys take substantially longer.

Commuting times

The survey found that the average one-way commute takes around 25 minutes for workers and students.

Car users spent an average of 23 minutes per journey, with the average commuting distance estimated at 16 kilometres.

Transport choices

Private vehicles accounted for 67 per cent of journeys reported by respondents. Walking made up nearly 20 per cent of trips, followed by buses at five per cent, cycling at three per cent and motorbikes at less than one per cent.

Bus travel and emissions

Public transport users faced longer journeys, with bus trips averaging 50 minutes. Passengers spent around 13 minutes waiting at stops, 34 minutes travelling and four minutes walking to or from their destination.

The survey estimated that commuting produces around 1,060 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions per passenger each year.
