Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus and Brazil have formed a joint council aimed at expanding economic ties and opportunities for businesses in both countries. Its creation follows a three-year effort by Invest Cyprus to build connections with Brazil’s market.

Agreement creates permanent cooperation platform

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Invest Cyprus, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) and Brazil’s Fecomercio Goias established the Cyprus–Brazil Business and Investment Council. The signing took place in Nicosia on Thursday, October 15, during the Cyprus – Brazil Business Forum and B2B Networking Event.

The event hosted the first organised delegation of Brazilian businesses of its kind to travel to Cyprus. The visit reflected ongoing work by Invest Cyprus to deepen bilateral investment links and broaden cooperation across Latin America.

Under the MoU, the council will serve as a standing framework to promote investment, develop business partnerships and support cooperation between institutions. It will also help companies from Brazil use Cyprus to access markets in Europe and the Middle East.

The arrangement is also expected to create opportunities for Cypriot companies pursuing expansion in Brazil and elsewhere in Latin America, reinforcing trade connections between the two regions.

Officials highlight market access and investment prospects

Energy, Commerce and Industry Minister Michalis Damianos welcomed the visiting delegation and reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering stronger economic and investment relations between the two countries.

Keve president Stavros Stavrou also underlined the value of closer ties. He recognised the role played in developing bilateral relations by Invest Cyprus, Cyprus’ Ambassador to Brazil, Vasilios Philippou, and Brazil’s Ambassador to Cyprus, Ana Maria De Souza Bierrenbach.

Fecomércio Goiás president Marcelo Baiocchi Carneiro said the timing favoured greater cooperation, highlighting Cyprus’ strategic position as an entry point to Europe and the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He also outlined prospects for Cypriot businesses seeking a larger presence in Brazil and the wider Latin American market.

Addressing the investment potential of the agreement, Invest Cyprus chairman Evgenios Evgeniou emphasised that cooperation between institutions needed to lead to tangible business partnerships and investment projects.
