Cyprus approves aid for uninsured property damaged in August 29 extreme weather
Uninsured homeowners, businesses, vehicles and photovoltaic systems damaged by the August 29 extreme weather can receive state assistance under cabinet-approved criteria.

Nicosia, Cyprus. The cabinet on Wednesday approved financial assistance for people affected by the extreme weather that struck Cyprus on August 29, including up to €20,000 for structural damage to uninsured owner-occupied permanent homes.
Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou said the government had agreed on the criteria for ex-gratia payments as district administrations continue recording and assessing damage across the island.
Assistance criteria
Uninsured owner-occupied permanent homes will receive 80 per cent of assessed structural damage, up to €20,000. Damage to household equipment will be covered at its assessed value, up to €15,000.
Uninsured photovoltaic systems at owner-occupied permanent homes will be eligible for 80 per cent of assessed damage, capped at €7,000.
For uninsured business premises, assistance will cover 70 per cent of assessed structural damage, up to €30,000. Equipment damage will be covered at its assessed value up to €10,000.
Uninsured vehicles will be eligible for 75 per cent of assessed damage, capped at €5,000 per vehicle, provided they have valid road tax, third-party insurance and an MOT, or have been legally declared off the road.
Insured properties and conditions
Properties, businesses and vehicles that are insured will be eligible for assistance equal to the assessed damage, up to the amount of the insurance excess, Ioannou said.
Financial assistance will only be provided for buildings with a permit from the competent authority and for permanent, licensed structures.
Damage assessments continue
The total cost of the scheme has not yet been determined because damage assessments are continuing.
Ioannou said the severe weather caused extensive material damage to homes, businesses, agricultural and livestock facilities, vehicles and photovoltaic systems.
