Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ startup and investment scene is expanding, but founders still face the challenge of making their businesses visible beyond the island, according to public relations and communications strategist Evgenia Zaslavskaya.

International reach

Zaslavskaya, founder of international communications agency ZECOMMS, said founders can build visibility without large marketing budgets and that Cyprus is one of Europe’s most underrated innovation hubs.

She made Cyprus her home after working with technology startups, venture capital firms and global companies across international markets.

Speaking to the Cyprus Mail, she discussed what separates startups that attract international media attention from those that do not.

ZECOMMS track record

Zaslavskaya launched ZECOMMS in 2022. Over the following three years, the agency supported more than 50 companies in sectors including fintech, femtech, robotics, climatetech, cybersecurity and child safety.

Its clients have secured coverage in outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Bloomberg and TechRadar. Zaslavskaya was named Best Leader in Public Relations and Communications at the Davos Communications Awards 2025.

She also judges international industry competitions, including the APAC SABRE Awards, and has more than a decade of experience in public relations and communications.

Cyprus ecosystem

For founders in emerging technology hubs such as Cyprus, Zaslavskaya said geography matters less than many entrepreneurs assume.

“Where you’re based matters far less than most people think,” she said. “Business happens online now. Your journalists, investors, and customers are probably scattered across different countries, and that’s perfectly normal.”

She said Cyprus can offer founders an ecosystem in which they can build relationships, find advisers and connect with other entrepreneurs.
