Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded annual inflation of 4.4 per cent in July 2026, placing it among the European Union countries with the highest price increases, according to figures released by Cystat and Eurostat. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices rose by 0.7 per cent from June.


EU comparison

Eurostat said Cyprus had the joint third-highest annual inflation rate in the EU alongside Bulgaria, both at 4.4 per cent. Romania recorded the highest rate at 8.2 per cent, followed by Lithuania at 5.4 per cent.

Cyprus’s rate was above the EU average of 3.0 per cent and the euro area average of 2.9 per cent. EU annual inflation rose from 2.9 per cent in June, while euro area inflation increased from 2.8 per cent.

A year earlier, annual inflation stood at 2.0 per cent in the euro area and 2.4 per cent across the EU.

Monthly developments

Cyprus was among nine EU member states where annual inflation increased between June and July. Inflation fell in 15 countries and remained unchanged in three.

Price increases by category

The largest annual price increase in Cyprus was recorded in restaurants and accommodation services, where prices were 12 per cent higher than in July 2025.

Housing, water, electricity, natural gas and other fuels followed, with prices rising by 7 per cent over the year.
