Nicosia, Cyprus. Despite new remote working legislation and the extension of the option to civil servants, most employees in Cyprus still travel to their workplace, and the country trails much of Europe in home working. Eurostat figures for 2025 put the share of people in Cyprus who worked from home at least occasionally at 14.3 per cent, while the EU average stood at 23 per cent.

What the Eurostat figures show

The data cover employed people aged 15 to 64. In Cyprus, 4.2 per cent usually worked from home and a further 10.1 per cent did so occasionally. The remaining 85.7 per cent did not work from home at all.

Comparison with earlier years and other countries

The 2025 result is an improvement on 2023, when roughly 11 per cent of workers in Cyprus worked remotely at least some of the time. The gap with other countries is still wide, however. In the Netherlands, more than half of employed people worked from home at least occasionally in 2025.

Role of the economy’s structure

The numbers partly reflect the make-up of the Cypriot economy. Roles such as software developer, accountant, financial analyst or marketing executive can often be performed with a laptop and an internet connection. Hotel receptionists, nurses, construction workers and restaurant staff have far fewer opportunities to work from home.

Benefits of working from home

Those who can work remotely avoid the morning commute, including traffic, parking searches and congestion in cities such as Limassol. They also tend to enjoy a more relaxed dress code and fewer unnecessary meetings.
