Cyprus positioned as base for remote data leadership services

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus can serve as a base for exporting senior data expertise to technology companies in Europe and the United States as businesses increasingly adopt remote leadership models, according to Nikolai Valiotti, chief data officer and founder of Valiotti Data.

Valiotti and his team provide fractional and interim data leadership to growth-stage companies, particularly those at Series A and B stages.

Remote leadership model

Valiotti has worked in the data sector for 17 years, beginning as an analyst before taking leadership positions at early-stage startups and large international technology companies.

His current model involves embedding his team within companies in the United States and Europe and taking responsibility for data-related decisions. It enables businesses to access senior data leadership without immediately bearing the cost of employing a full-time chief data officer.

Cyprus as an operating base

Valiotti said Cyprus was selected deliberately as a base because of its infrastructure, European talent pool, business conditions and geographical position.

The island’s time zone overlaps with both New York and northern Europe, allowing his team to work across the two markets. He described this as part of a wider shift towards delivering senior expertise remotely to international clients, rather than requiring executives to be based in the same country as their employers.

Sector development

Beyond client work, Valiotti judges international awards, including the Globee Awards for AI and MassChallenge, where he assesses data and artificial intelligence companies.

He has written two books on analytics leadership, including one published in Russian by Bombora and another in English available through Amazon.

In Cyprus, he founded the Cyprus Data Community as part of efforts to develop the island’s data and artificial intelligence sector.
