Cyprus to host EU industrial forum on raw materials in Larnaca on May 28

Larnaca, Cyprus. The Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union will sponsor a high-level industrial gathering in Larnaca on May 28, 2026, to discuss the strategic role of raw materials in securing continental resilience. The half-day summit is titled “Entrepreneurs’ Forum: Why Do We Need Minerals?” and will take place at the Sun Hall Hotel.

Forum details

The event will run from 09:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the hotel on 6 Athens Avenue. Organisers said the forum is intended to underline the importance of minerals to Europe’s future.

Organisers and speakers

The forum is being jointly organised by Aggregates Europe, Eurogypsum, Euromines, the Greek Mining Enterprises Association and the Cyprus Quarries Association.

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Maria Panayiotou will deliver the opening welcome address. The first presentation, on minerals for modern life, will include contributions from Aggregates Europe president Antonis Antoniou Latouros and Project Blue industrial and critical minerals expert Alison Saxby.

Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration and Energy general manager Dionysios Gkoutis will also speak during the opening sequence.

European and Cypriot perspectives

European Commission Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs deputy director general Maive Rute is due to present the European perspective on raw materials.

Directorate General for the Environment permanent secretary Costas Costantinou is scheduled to outline the Cypriot perspective before the mid-morning coffee break.

Panel discussion

After the break, a panel moderated by Dirk Fincke and Tristan Suffys will allow audience members to ask experts how to manage raw materials and reduce supply risks.
