Limassol, Cyprus. DP World Limassol has completed its annual two-month internship programme, giving four undergraduate students hands-on experience in port operations and the wider maritime sector.

Now in its sixth consecutive year, the programme enables students in maritime and related fields to work alongside company teams, contribute to projects and develop practical and technical skills.

Participants and experience

This year’s participants were Elpida Markou and Styliana Efstathiou from the Cyprus University of Technology (Tepak), and Agathoklis Antoniou and Charis Nikolaou from Frederick University.

During the two-month programme, the students received direct exposure to the operation of a modern port, strengthening their technical knowledge and understanding of the maritime industry.

Programme record

Since its launch in 2020, the programme has welcomed more than 30 students. Ten participants have subsequently joined DP World Limassol as staff members in different departments.

The company said the initiative supports local education and aims to help develop a sustainable pipeline of skilled professionals for Cyprus’ maritime industry.

DP World Limassol CEO Simon Pitout said supporting young talent was part of the company’s commitment to the future of the maritime industry.

“Through this internship programme, students gain meaningful exposure to the operations of a modern port, while working alongside experienced professionals who help turn academic knowledge into practical skills,” he said.

“We are proud to play a role in preparing the next generation of industry leaders and look forward to seeing their careers develop,” Pitout added.

Applications

Applications for the programme open in April, with successful candidates due to be announced in mid-May.

Priority is given to undergraduate students at universities that collaborate with DP World Limassol. Students from other institutions may also apply by sending a CV and cover letter to the company.
