Police arrested eight people and reported hundreds of traffic violations during overnight operations across Cyprus.

Nicosia, Cyprus. Eight people were arrested for various offences during overnight police operations across Cyprus, police said on Saturday.

Officers checked 586 vehicles, 863 occupants and 46 premises during the operations.


Arrests and premises checks

The arrests involved offences including assault and causing injury, breaking and entering and theft, unlawful possession of property, illegal residence in the Republic, and traffic offences including drink-driving.

Checks at 46 premises resulted in seven reports.

Traffic enforcement

Police issued 236 reports for traffic violations, while a further 15 cases remain under investigation. Twenty-two vehicles were impounded.

Of the traffic offences recorded, 84 involved speeding.

Police conducted 267 breathalyser tests, identifying 16 drink-driving cases. One driver tested positive for drugs following six preliminary roadside drug tests.
