Brussels, Belgium. Seasonally adjusted services production in both the euro area and the European Union rose by 0.8 per cent in May 2026 compared with the previous month, Eurostat reported.

The monthly increase followed growth in April, when services output rose by 0.7 per cent in the euro area and by 0.3 per cent across the EU.


Annual growth

On an annual basis, services production expanded by 2.4 per cent in both the euro area and the European Union compared with May 2025.

Sector performance

In the euro area, real estate activities led monthly growth in May, rising by 2.1 per cent from April. Professional, scientific and technical activities increased by 1.0 per cent.

Administrative and support services rose by 0.6 per cent, while information and communication activities increased by 0.5 per cent. Transportation and storage grew by 0.2 per cent, while accommodation and food services declined by 1.0 per cent.

Across the EU, real estate activities rose by 1.6 per cent, professional, scientific and technical activities gained 0.9 per cent, and information and communication increased by 0.6 per cent.

Administrative and support services expanded by 0.5 per cent, while transportation and storage rose by 0.2 per cent. Accommodation and food services fell by 1.0 per cent.

Member state data

Among member states with available data, Greece recorded the largest monthly increase in services production, at 4.5 per cent. Latvia followed with growth of 3.8 per cent, while Poland recorded an increase of 3.0 per cent.
