Film Festival on Diversity 2026 closes with postponed screening in old Nicosia

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Film Festival on Diversity 2026 will conclude this year’s programme on Friday with a postponed screening that was originally scheduled for May 11 but was delayed because of technical problems. The final event will take place at Axiothea Mansion in the heart of old Nicosia, under the stars.

Screenings

The evening will include two film screenings, both with English subtitles. At 7.45pm, the 2024 award-winning film Fanon will be shown. The film follows Frantz Fanon, a French psychiatrist from Martinique, who has just been appointed head of department at the psychiatric hospital in Blida, Algeria.

His innovative and humanistic treatment methods contrast with those of the other doctors, draw the attention of higher powers, and lead him and his wife Josie to join Algeria’s independence struggle.

Documentary

At 10pm, the documentary Historjá – Stygn för Sápmi will continue the programme with the story of Sami artist Britta Marakatt-Labba. The film focuses on her work, which portrays and highlights Sami culture, both historically and today, as well as reindeer husbandry, which is threatened by the global climate crisis.

The documentary is described as a powerful, poetic and visually strong account of indigenous peoples’ struggle.

Event details

The screening is co-organised with the French and Swedish embassies and the Institut Français de Chypre. Admission is free, but registration is required in advance through an online form. The event is organised by the Centre for Social Innovation.
