Nicosia, Cyprus. Hay bales infected with the foot and mouth disease (FMD) virus will no longer be buried in Troulli and will be taken to a different safe location, Agriculture Minister Christos Senekis announced on Friday. The step is intended to avoid any impact on livestock units in the neighbouring areas.

Decision after consultation

Senekis explained that the decision followed talks with Aradippou mayor Christodoulos Partou.

Aim of the relocation

The minister said the objective was to deal with the matter safely while avoiding obstacles to getting livestock units operating again after the FMD crisis. He assured that the bales would be transferred immediately.
