Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday that Iran was still seeking a negotiated solution to its conflict with the United States, after the two countries resumed hostilities for the first time since late July.

Call for dialogue

Speaking with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of a regional security meeting in Kyrgyzstan, Pezeshkian accused the United States of failing to meet commitments under past agreements.

“Nevertheless, we are still trying to achieve an agreement and understanding, and we believe that continuing the war is in no one’s interest, neither ours, nor the region’s, nor humanity’s,” Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted him as saying.

He said dialogue and cooperation were needed to resolve the issues and prevent insecurity and conflict from spreading.

Strikes and retaliation

A U.S. official said U.S. forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island on Sunday. The island is about 660 km east of Kharg Island.

Iranian media reported that Iran responded by striking two U.S. bases in Jordan. Two people were killed and others injured in the attack on Larak Island, IRNA news agency quoted the local governor as saying.

The renewed hostilities followed weeks in which the Trump administration had increased economic sanctions against Tehran and its business partners, while diplomacy remained stalled. Oil prices rose more than 3.5%.

Kharg Island video

U.S. President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video clip on Truth Social that he said showed Iran’s Kharg Island oil hub being destroyed.

There was no evidence of an attack on Kharg Island, and a U.S. official said the military had not targeted the island in overnight strikes. An Iranian official described Trump’s post as “laughable”.

Analysis using software designed to detect AI-manipulated imagery found that the clip, which showed dramatic explosions, was most likely synthetically generated.
