Israel questions two activists after intercepting Gaza-bound flotilla off Crete

Jerusalem, Israel. Israel’s foreign ministry said it took two activists to the country for questioning after intercepting another flotilla bound for the coast of Gaza and releasing 175 activists in international waters off the coast of Crete.

Detentions and allegations

According to the Times of Israel, Saif Abu Keshek is suspected of affiliation to a terrorist organisation and Thiago Avila of illegal activity. The ministry again referred to the flotilla as “Hamas-led” and described it as a provocation aimed at diverting attention from what it said was the organisation’s refusal to disarm.

Israel said the action was serving “the PR interests of professionals provocateurs”.

Organisers call for release

The flotilla organisers called for pressure on Israel to release the two remaining detainees. “We demand all governments to do all they can to help secure the release all illegal abductees,” the activists said.

Released activists depart via Greece

Those released departed for their countries through the Greek island.
