London, United Kingdom. King Charles expressed sadness over Cyprus’ continuing division and hopes for an early resolution during a reception at St James’ Palace, according to Cypriot social entrepreneur Christina Dymioti.

Discussion on bicommunal youth work

Dymioti, who founded Fashion Heritage Network Cyprus, joined last week’s Commonwealth reception in her capacity as a Commonwealth Trust Global Youth Leader. King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted the gathering, whose guests included high commissioners alongside representatives from Commonwealth organisations.

According to Dymioti, her discussion with the King about her work lasted longer than the brief greetings most guests received. She said she explained how her youth-led, non-profit organisation uses sustainable fashion to unite young Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots around a common creative goal.

Dymioti said the King asked about progress on bicommunal initiatives. In response, she told him about her membership of Cyprus’ first bicommunal Technical Committee on Youth, following her appointment by President Nikos Christodoulides.

She reported that Charles congratulated her and urged her team to keep working. Dymioti said his encouragement meant a great deal both to her personally and to the team.

Committee role and recognition

The committee works directly with the United Nations, and Dymioti is its sole diaspora youth representative.

Her previous recognition includes winning the Culture & Arts Award at the Cyprus Diaspora Forum in 2024. Last year, she was also named a finalist in the PwC Women of the Future Awards UK.

Charles has yet to visit Cyprus officially, either during his reign or while he was Prince of Wales.
