Kuwait donates €43,319 to Cyprus Committee on Missing Persons

Nicosia, Cyprus. The State of Kuwait has donated US$50,000 (€43,319) to the Committee on Missing Persons, the United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus (Unficyp) announced on Thursday. The contribution brings Kuwait’s total donations to the CMP since 2014 to €243,750.
Support for identification efforts
Unficyp said the funding would support the committee’s goal of identifying and returning the remains of missing people to their families in 2026, helping to end the long-standing uncertainty experienced by relatives.
Committee’s work
The CMP was established in 1981 and became operational in 2006. It is tasked with locating and identifying 2,002 people who went missing during Cyprus’ intercommunal conflicts.
By the end of last month, the committee had exhumed 1,719 bodies and identified the remains of 1,081 people on the official list, as well as 217 others.
Among those identified were 317 Turkish Cypriots and 764 Greek Cypriots. So far this year, the remains of 18 people, all Turkish Cypriots, have been identified.
Donor funding
The CMP operates through donations from states and international organisations.
