Three-year collective agreement
The labour ministry, which acted as mediator, said the collective agreement was renewed for three years, from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2028.
Following talks and a mediation proposal, the two sides agreed to gradually reduce weekly working hours from 40 to 38.
The agreement also guarantees salary increases in each year of the renewed collective agreement, raises starting salaries and increases the employer’s contribution to the provident fund.
Company and plant operations
Trade unions representing the workers had previously indicated that strike action was possible.
The agreement concerns MN Larnaca Desalination Ltd, a joint venture between Mekorot, Israel’s national water company, and Netcom.
The company was awarded the contract for the Larnaca desalination plant in 2015. Under the contract, which runs until 2040, it is paid €0.6 per cubic metre.
The plant produces approximately 60,000 cubic metres of desalinated water per day.
