Larnaca, Cyprus. The association of secondary education parents in Larnaca has denounced repeated cancellations of school bus routes, saying hundreds of students and their families have faced serious disruption.

The group called on the transport ministry to intervene immediately and restore all affected services.

Concerns over disrupted access to schools

The association said problems had persisted since the start of the school year, with numerous routes not operating as scheduled.

It criticised Cyprus public transport, which operates school bus services in the Larnaca district, for cancelling scheduled routes and leaving pupils without transport to school for days at a time.

“It cannot be accepted that students remain without transportation and that their studies are disrupted, without immediate and effective intervention by the competent authorities,” the association said.

Call for permanent solution

The group said pupils should not be deprived of safe and uninterrupted transport to and from school, describing the service as a contractual obligation for which families had paid the prescribed fare.

It added that any delinquent behaviour, which organised parents had previously condemned and called on the state to address, should not be used as a reason to cancel school routes and affect students who bear no responsibility.

The association called for the immediate reinstatement of all routes and a permanent solution to prevent similar incidents, warning of consequences if this does not happen.
