Nicosia, Cyprus. The 2026 edition of the “Let’s Do It!” clean-up campaign, held across Cyprus, will wrap up on Sunday with a public event at Athalassa forest park, beginning at 9.30am.

The programme includes an organised clean-up in the area around the park. Volunteers, families, students, representatives of public bodies, businesses and sponsors are expected to take part.

The organisers’ announcement describes the initiative as the biggest environmental and volunteer cleaning effort in Cyprus. It says more than 350,000 people have joined since 2012.

Environment commissioner’s remarks

Environment commissioner Elias Myrianthous said the campaign unites people of every age each year. He described the contribution of participants as essential, both for cleaning up locations and for raising public awareness. He added that his office has backed the organisers and volunteers since 2012, supporting the campaign and placing it under its auspices.

Myrianthous said illegal dumping and weak waste management put pressure on the environment, reduce quality of life and carry an economic cost for the country. He argued that tackling the problem also requires a review of consumption habits, including what people buy, how much they actually need and how readily they replace items. In his words, “We need to limit unnecessary consumption and waste, repair and reuse what can still serve us.”

Forestry department’s role

Forestry department director Savvas Ezekiel said the department is the authority responsible for protecting, managing and sustainably developing the forest ecosystems of Cyprus. He said it has backed the campaign consistently and has played an active part in the push for a cleaner and healthier natural environment.

Ezekiel said: “Environmental protection is not limited to an individual campaign, but is a collective responsibility and ongoing effort, in which the active participation of citizens is crucial.”

Organisers’ view

The national coordinator of the campaign, Ileana Nicholson, said “Let’s Do It!” Cyprus is about more than a clean-up effort.
