Paphos, Cyprus. Police arrested a 51-year-old monk on Friday in connection with an attempted murder investigation following an incident at a monastery in the Paphos district that left two people injured.


Alleged attack

According to sources, a delegation of priests visited the monastery on Friday and asked the monk to hand over the keys to his cell and leave the premises.

The monk allegedly reacted by stabbing a 53-year-old man in the throat with a sharp object. He then allegedly attacked a 27-year-old priest, injuring his hand with a sharp object.

Hospital treatment

The 53-year-old was taken to Paphos general hospital, where his wounds were stitched.

The 27-year-old was also taken to hospital, treated in the casualty department and discharged.
