Paphos, Cyprus. The National Ballet of Slovenia will perform Don Quixote at the open-air stage by Paphos Medieval Castle on Saturday, September 26, at 8pm. Bolshoi Theatre principal dancer Igor Tsvirko and prima ballerina Kristina Kretova will dance the roles of Basilio and Kitri.

A third visit to Cyprus

Presented by Celebrity Gala and Papadopoulos and Schinis Productions, the three-act production marks the company’s third visit to Cyprus and its first here with a major classical ballet. The National Ballet of Slovenia, part of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor, brought Zorba to the island in September 2025 and Radio & Juliet and Proof in February 2026. Tsvirko and Kretova have also performed in Cyprus before.

Also known as Ballet Maribor, the company has performed at the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and La Scala in Milan. In a single season, it also performed in Dubai, Hong Kong and São Paulo.

A classical ballet in Paphos

The Paphos production features choreography by Krzysztof Nowogrodzki. Don Quixote premiered in Moscow in 1869 and became a staple of the repertoires of both the Bolshoi and the Mariinsky Theatre. Known for its technical demands and Spanish dance influences, the ballet will be staged with colourful sets and costumes against the castle walls.

The performance will take place at Paphos Medieval Castle Square. Tickets are available through www.soldoutticketbox.com and www.celebritygala.eu.
