Nicosia mayor says faulty pedestrian crossing buttons will be repaired immediately
Nicosia’s mayor said faults at three pelican crossings, where pedestrian buttons do not alter traffic light sequences, have been identified and will be resolved immediately.

Nicosia, Cyprus. Faults at pedestrian crossings in the capital, where buttons do not change traffic light sequences, will be resolved immediately, Mayor Charalambos Prountzos said.
The municipality’s technical team examined the matter and an external maintenance contractor identified the fault, he said.
Crossings affected
Issues were reported at at least three pelican crossings near busy arterial roads in Nicosia.
The affected locations are the Aluminium Tower T-junction, connecting Limassol Avenue and Aglandjia Avenue; the Apoel T-junction, connecting Makarios Avenue and John F Kennedy Avenue; and the T-junction connecting Makarios Avenue and National Guard Street.
Pedestrians using the crossings reported that the buttons were out of service. They said they were forced either to wait for traffic to clear sufficiently or to cross busy roads while vehicles were approaching.
Reporting system
Prountzos also referred to the Nicosia municipality’s Novoville mobile application, through which members of the public can report infrastructure issues.
“The Nicosia municipality maintains a state-of-the-art problem reporting system, the Novoville app … We urge citizens to report such faults on the platform, and we are thankful to everyone who brings matters to our attention,” he said.
