Pistorius urges Europeans to take more responsibility for security after U.S. troop withdrawal plan

Berlin, Germany. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said Europeans must take greater responsibility for their own security following the announcement of plans to withdraw 5,000 U.S. troops from Germany.

Call for greater European responsibility

Pistorius said “Germany is on the right track” and pointed to the expansion of its Bundeswehr armed forces, faster procurement of equipment, and the construction of infrastructure.

U.S. troop withdrawal described as foreseeable

Pistorius said it was foreseeable that the United States would withdraw troops from Europe, including Germany.
