Manchester, United Kingdom. Cheshire Police are investigating a burglary at the home of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, where several items were stolen, The Athletic reported. Citing a club statement, the publication said none of his family were present and the intruders were inside for under five minutes before officers arrived.

Officers respond to suspicious activity

Detective Inspector Dave Jarvis told The Athletic that officers were sent to a residential property on Wednesday night following a report of suspicious activity. A caller had seen three unfamiliar men in a neighbouring property’s back garden, he said.

Jarvis said officers found no suspects when they arrived, but established that the property had been burgled and items taken. He said an investigation was under way and enquiries were continuing.

The Athletic reported that police received the alert shortly after Como beat Manchester United 4-1 in a Champions League match in Italy.

Reuters has sought comment from both Cheshire Police and Manchester United.

Fernandes urges greater courage after defeat

Fernandes, 32, has played in every United match this season and was captain on Wednesday, when the club’s winless sequence across all competitions reached seven games.

After the latest disappointing result, he urged his teammates to show greater courage.
