Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus plans to spend €10 million installing 94 fast charging points for electric vehicles over the coming years, Transport Minister Evie Tsolaki said in a letter released on Friday. The programme allocates 76 points to light vehicles and 18 to heavy vehicles.

Locations and installation schedule

The minister outlined the programme in an October 7 reply to Larnaca MP Prodromos Alambritis. She said ten charging areas serving light vehicles and three serving heavy vehicles were intended to provide coverage across the entire road network.

Alongside urban hubs in Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol, the plan includes facilities in Alambra, Kofinou, Evrychou, Saittas, Mandria, Polis Chryschous and Paralimni.

According to Tsolaki, installation of 16 points serving light vehicles is scheduled for 2026. A further 48 light-vehicle points and 12 heavy-vehicle points are planned for 2027, with the rest scheduled for 2028.

She said funding required for the 2026 and 2027 infrastructure had been allocated in the budget of the electromechanical services department.

Charging capacity

Tsolaki said the ten light-vehicle stations would together provide 76 fast charging points, each rated at 150 kW.

The three stations serving heavy vehicles would provide 18 points: 12 rated at 350 kW and six at 200 kW.

Existing public facilities

The minister reported that Cyprus already had 384 charging points available to the public across 221 stations. The station totals were 76 in Nicosia, 57 in Limassol, 32 in Paphos, 29 in Larnaca and 27 in Famagusta.

Tsolaki also said ten fast charging stations had already been installed at publicly accessible locations. These include the car parks at the general hospitals in Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Kyperounda and Famagusta.

The other locations she listed were Troodos square, the Choirokitia archaeological site, Trimiklini, the Tombs of the Kings bus station in Paphos and the bus station in Polis Chrysochous.

She said those stations were installed under the recovery and resilience plan, costing €840,660 in total.
