Nicosia, Cyprus. A police officer who admitted neglect of duty in connection with the 2019 suicide of 14-year-old Stylianos Constantinou is due to be sentenced on November 30.

The charges

The 58-year-old defendant has been posted at the Pera Chorio police station since 2013. He stands accused of failing to carry out additional investigations after he learned that Stylianos had previously attempted to take his own life.

The officer pleaded guilty to the charges on October 15. At a court hearing on Wednesday, his lawyer, Elias Stefanou, asked for a lighter sentence for his client.
