Nicosia, Cyprus. Rainfall in the free areas of Cyprus reached 41 per cent of the average amount for August by 9am on Monday, the meteorology department said. Unsettled weather, including local showers and isolated thunderstorms, is expected to continue until Wednesday.


Rainfall totals

The average rainfall recorded between August 1 and 9am on Monday was 1.2mm, compared with the monthly normal of 2.9mm.

The highest totals were recorded in Saittas, which received 13.9mm, equivalent to 103 per cent of its average rainfall, and Platania, where 13.2mm was recorded, or 96 per cent of average.

Athienou recorded 9mm, equal to 360 per cent of its average, while Lythrodontas received 7mm, or 233 per cent.

Weather outlook

Rain and thunderstorms were reported in several areas on Sunday, with hail recorded in some locations.

The meteorology department forecasts local showers and isolated thunderstorms on Wednesday, mainly in mountainous and inland areas. Hail is possible in areas affected by storms.

Temperatures are expected to rise gradually and reach seasonal averages by Thursday.
