Russian authorities say 11 killed in attack on Zaporizhzhia holiday camp

Kyrylivka, Ukraine. Russian authorities said 11 people, including four children, were killed and 16 wounded in an overnight attack on a holiday camp in the Russian-held part of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region. They accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians.

Attack allegations

Russian-appointed Zaporizhzhia governor Yevgeny Balitsky said the attack struck a resort area in Kyrylivka, on the Azov Sea coast near Melitopol.

“The enemy saw and understood who it was targeting,” Balitsky said on Telegram.

Ukraine did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Both Russia and Ukraine deny targeting civilians in the war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Energy infrastructure claims

Ukraine said its drones struck a Russian oil platform in the Caspian Sea and an oil refinery in Siberia on Saturday.

Ukraine’s SBU security service said it had hit the Filanovsky oil platform, which belongs to Lukoil and forms part of Russia’s largest Caspian oil field. Lukoil did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Authorities in Russia’s Tyumen region said a Ukrainian drone caused a fire at a refinery. They did not say whether refinery output had been disrupted.

The targets were located more than 700 kilometres and 2,000 kilometres from Ukrainian territory, respectively.

Ship strikes

Both Kyiv and Moscow said they had also struck ships carrying military cargo.
