The Fire Service said five staffed fire engines were working to extinguish the blaze. Initial information indicated that the fire was caused by a fallen object.

Strovolos crews on standby

Strovolos Municipality crews are on standby to address problems caused by the extreme weather conditions, Mayor Stavros Stavrinidis said in a social media post.

He urged residents to take particular care when travelling and to avoid areas with fallen or dangerous branches and trees.

The mayor said the severe weather had caused fallen branches and other incidents that could pose risks to public safety and traffic. Residents can contact the municipality on 99 643044 for urgent incidents linked to the weather conditions.
