Nicosia, Cyprus. Ongoing storms have damaged the electricity grid and caused power outages in the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca and Paphos, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) said.

Repair response

EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou said crews were deployed to restore supply and repair damage as quickly as possible.

“All crews are on the move and efforts are being made to restore and repair as quickly as possible,” she said.

Lightning damage

Papadopoulou said Avgorou in the Larnaca district was facing the most serious problems after the network was struck by lightning.

Electricity supply in the Nicosia district was also interrupted by lightning, she said, adding that worsening weather conditions were making the situation more difficult.

Public appeal

The EAC has recalled personnel and placed crews on standby to carry out necessary repairs, Papadopoulou said.

She said safety remained the priority and appealed to the public for patience.
