Larnaca, Cyprus. Customs officers found 48 flavoured vaping devices labelled as containing THC and CBD in a parcel from the United States that had been declared as children’s toys.

Parcel inspection

The 4.2kg parcel was inspected on 5 August at the Post Office Parcel Exchange at Larnaca Airport after being selected by the Customs Risk Management System.

According to its declaration, the parcel contained three packages of children’s toys, specifically cards featuring a well-known cartoon brand.

During a physical inspection in the presence of a postal officer, customs officials found three packages containing 48 vaping devices rather than the declared children’s cards. Each package contained 16 devices.

Contents and investigation

The devices were labelled as containing 89% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), or 1,517.65mg per package, and 7.49% cannabidiol (CBD), or 3.21mg per package. The declared total active cannabinoid content was 96.49%.

The Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) was notified and officers attended the inspection site. Customs seized the parcel and its contents before handing them to YKAN.

Following the issuance of a warrant, YKAN officers arrested a person in Nicosia district on Friday morning on suspicion of being the parcel’s recipient. The case is being investigated by YKAN’s Nicosia unit.
