Larnaca, Cyprus. The health ministry filed a third complaint on Tuesday against a medical centre offering plasmapheresis treatment following an on-site inspection conducted on Friday. Two previous complaints regarding the same centre were filed in 2022 and 2023.

Ministry inspection

The ministry said it received information last Thursday concerning a centre in Larnaca, after which relevant examinations were carried out.

It said the suspension of the centre’s operations was a matter for police, rather than the ministry.

“The health ministry can only close a medical facility if it is licensed by the health ministry,” it said.

Police findings

Police said they received a letter from the department of medical services referring to two medical centres in Larnaca where plasmapheresis machines were located.

A search of the properties found machines at one centre but not at the other.

Police had previously confirmed on Friday that they received a letter from the health ministry concerning a patient who required treatment after developing serious complications.

The subsequent investigation found insufficient evidence to establish that criminal offences had been committed. The case file was sent to the legal service, which also concluded that there were insufficient grounds for a criminal case.
