Three drivers arrested after separate collisions in Nicosia and Famagusta districts

Nicosia, Cyprus. Police arrested two drivers involved in separate road collisions in the Nicosia district after alcohol readings of 139μg%ml and 82μg%ml. A third driver involved in a collision in the Famagusta district was arrested after refusing an alcohol test, and her driving licence was suspended.


First collision

The first collision occurred at about 5pm when a 43-year-old truck driver lost control of his vehicle under circumstances being investigated by police.

The truck left the road and struck the fence and wall of a house on the right-hand side of the road in the Nicosia district. The impact also damaged the parking area of a neighbouring property.

Nicosia Traffic Police officers administered an alcohol test to the driver, which recorded 139μg%ml, compared with the permitted limit of 22.

The 43-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and taken into custody. Nicosia Traffic Police are continuing their investigation.

Second collision

A second collision occurred in the Nicosia district shortly after 8.30pm, involving a car driven by a 50-year-old man and another vehicle driven by a 40-year-old man.

Officers from Peristerona Police Station and Morphou Traffic Police attended the scene and tested both drivers for alcohol.

The 50-year-old recorded 82μg%ml, against the permitted limit of 22, and was arrested for the purposes of the police investigation.

Famagusta district arrest

A third driver involved in a collision in the Famagusta district was arrested after refusing an alcohol test. Police also suspended her driving licence.
