Limassol, Cyprus. A small volunteer group is organising Pawse for a Walk, an initiative allowing people to accompany shelter dogs on an outing without adopting them. Organiser Artemii said the idea followed a shelter visit that revealed how infrequently some dogs could go out.

Time beyond the shelter

Artemii said that although shelter dogs received food and care, opportunities for a day away were rare, prompting the organisers to address that gap.

“One walk, one day, can mean the world to a dog,” Artemii said.

The initiative is intended to offer dog lovers who cannot take on ownership a less demanding way to help by spending several hours with a shelter dog.

Dogs awaiting homes

Robert’s Dog Sanctuary in Limassol currently looks after 37 dogs, predominantly mixed breeds, ranging in age from puppies to elderly animals. Each dog has a distinct personality and history.

The sanctuary supplies meals, accommodation and medical treatment as the dogs await adoption. Their daily lives offer routine, safety and attention from carers, but can also involve lengthy waits for someone to notice them, a home and experiences outside the shelter.
