Interior design in Cyprus: summer–autumn 2020 trends

Ayia Napa

Service description

Throughout this year, mixed styles will remain fashionable and on-trend in interior design, but with a greater emphasis on maximalism and understated chic.

Increasingly, the interior designers at A.K. Studio are moving away from minimalism and high-tech.

Even the Scandinavian style is gradually fading into the background. So what’s in vogue right now?

How can you design the interior of your house or flat whilst keeping up with the times?

As research by many companies specialising in interior design trends has shown, the current trends remain:

  1. Art Deco, which is gaining momentum and is beginning to overshadow the Scandinavian style;

2. Memphis, which will transport you back to the distant 1980s with its bright colours and colour combinations, but thanks to modern materials and textures will look quite fresh and original;

3. contemporary style, which was popular in 2019 and is maintaining its position in 2020.

As for the colour palette, stylists recommend using gold, burgundy and deep blue. Incidentally, blue has been named this year’s favourite colour, as, according to most stylists, it symbolises calm and security.

Furthermore, combinations of white and grey are also holding their own. White remains on-trend, as it helps to conceal a room’s flaws (narrow and low-ceilinged rooms, lack of light, etc.), whilst also lending rooms a certain air of sophistication and understated chic. And when combined with the currently fashionable gold, it helps to transport us back to the Baroque era and recreate the chic and elegance of Art Deco.

Among the current trends in textures, the following stand out:

  • natural textures (elements reminiscent of corrosion, a sense of an unfinished finish, natural, untreated surfaces, more wood, plaster, iron and glass);
  •  contemporary decorative elements (inserts made of plastic and coloured glass, asymmetrical, striking designs, painted metal, 3D printing on plastic);
  •  subtle ‘ripples’ and mottled surfaces (terrazzo, Murano glass, untreated plastic, etc. remain at the height of popularity).

There is an emphasis on natural details; the combination of untreated wood in warm tones with darker wood species is particularly popular, as are clay products and plaster with striking irregularities.

Furthermore, a combination of natural and plain surfaces with bright, asymmetrical details, or with a mottled surface, will look stylish and striking.
