Cyprus has virtually no large-scale domestic cosmetics manufacturers of its own. Under the bright Mediterranean sun, Cyprus’s farms have for many years been producing various organic ingredients for numerous major cosmetics companies around the world. Authentic Cypriot cosmetics are also produced by small companies. These can be purchased in local shops and in all pharmacies across Cyprus. The range of facial skincare products from independent manufacturers includes countless varieties of natural creams, scrubs, lotions and toners. The raw materials used in these cosmetics are always locally sourced, with the main ingredients most often grown on the island of Aphrodite. For true connoisseurs, however, there is a special place to buy local natural cosmetics: in Old Paphos, at the end of the Old Harbour promenade, there is a beauty shop specialising in unique products. Despite the simple design of the bottles on display in the shop, each one contains genuine Cypriot beauty treasures. The products on offer are rapidly gaining popularity amongst tourists. Word of this marvellous shop, thanks to ‘word of mouth’, has elevated it to the status of a must-visit on Cyprus’s main tourist routes. KORRES – a manufacturer of cosmetics harnessing the healing power of nature
Greek skincare products are ubiquitous and widely available in Cyprus. Korres is a brand that emerged in 1996 from Athens’ first homeopathic pharmacy, and has been rapidly gaining popularity worldwide alongside the rise of sport, healthy lifestyles, proper nutrition and the public’s widespread fascination with ‘grandmother’s secret’ recipes for face masks. The brand comprises over 400 products. Korres boasts its own laboratories, which have achieved recognised success in developing anti-ageing products and rejuvenating ingredients. APIVITA – a manufacturer of exclusive cosmetics
Apivita is a manufacturer of exclusive cosmetics that has been successfully established on the market since 1979. Literally translated, the name means ‘bee and life’, which reflects the company’s core principle: its cosmetics are based on high-quality natural extracts and oils derived from plants and bee products. The company utilises a patented process – the encapsulation of royal jelly – whose biological action enhances the products’ properties by allowing them to penetrate deeply into the skin’s layers. The products contain extracts from 5,500 plants and are 80–100 per cent natural. The average price of facial products is between 5 and 17 euros.

These are predominantly brands such as Payot, Decleor, Biotherm, Vichy, LRP, Avene, Korress, Apivita, L’Oréal, Lancaster, Aphrodita and a number of others. So, when you visit Cyprus, be sure to pick up some local cosmetics. They make a wonderful gift not only for your friends but also for yourself, making you look like Aphrodite, who bestowed some of her beauty upon this beautiful island.
