Nicosia, Cyprus. The fire brigade and police are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out in the Ergates industrial area on Tuesday. The blaze burned an estimated seven hectares and caused minor damage to a nearby solar park.
Firefighting operation
The fire started on Tuesday afternoon and burned wild vegetation, several trees and abandoned vehicles.
It was extinguished later in the evening by 10 fire engines from the Nicosia fire station, two additional fire engines from the forestry department and four firefighting aircraft.
The Game and Fauna Service, Civil Defence and volunteer groups also supported the operation.
Properties at risk
According to the fire brigade, several buildings and a production site were at risk from the fire.
Fire engines remained at the scene overnight as a precaution against the blaze reigniting.
