Glasgow, United Kingdom. Cyprus won 12 medals and finished 14th in the overall standings at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, prompting President Nikos Christodoulides to congratulate the island’s athletes.
Presidential congratulations
In a written statement on Monday, Christodoulides said he warmly congratulated the athletes who represented the Republic of Cyprus and gave the country “great emotions”.
He said the delegation’s one gold, five silver and six bronze medals confirmed the high standard of Cypriot sport and reflected the athletes’ hard work and sacrifices.
More than 3,000 athletes from 72 countries competed at the Games. Cyprus was among 14 delegations to win a double-digit number of medals.
The president said the state actively supports athletes through the Cyprus Sports Organisation. He also congratulated coaches, federations and the Cyprus Olympic Committee, while thanking athletes’ families for their support.
He said the government would continue to provide substantial support for Cypriot sport.
Cypriot medal winners
The Cypriot team included 36 athletes competing in weightlifting and para weightlifting, gymnastics, swimming, athletics and judo.
Judoka Christodoulos Christodoulides won Cyprus’ gold medal on the final day on Sunday, taking the men’s +100kg title.
In the men’s under-100kg category, Georgios Kroussaniotakis defeated fellow Cypriot Aristos Michael to claim bronze.
Zanet Michaelidou won bronze in the women’s under-78kg event, sharing third place with Canada’s Coralie Godbout. Odysseas Georgakis had won bronze in the men’s under-81kg category on Saturday.
Sofia Asvesta secured silver in the women’s under-52kg division. Giorgi Balartashvili won silver and Petros Christodoulides took bronze in the men’s under-66kg event.
Gymnastics and athletics medals
Gymnast Marios Georgiou won silver medals in the parallel bars and horizontal bar, while Neofytos Kyriacou claimed bronze in the vault.
Milan Trajkovic took bronze in the 110m hurdles, and hammer thrower Iosif Kesidis won silver, completing Cyprus’ medal tally.
